8 months (June/July)

You guessed it....Makayla is 8 months today! This past month has been filled with many impressive milestones.

First of all, she now weighs a whopping 16 pounds! And she is one BEAUTIFUL and sassy girl!

My most favorite picture of all time!

Yes, she has the Robinson tongue! It must be out when she
is concentrating!

Activity
Makayla is scooting like a mad woman! She hasn't figured out how to go forward yet, but she can scoot backwards anywhere she wants to. She is very very close to crawling. She gets up on her hands and knees and starts like rocking forward and back. She just hasn't figured out how to take the steps.

The newest accomplishment is that she can get to a sitting position from her belly. She will push up from her belly, put her butt in the air with her feet on the ground, and push backwards until she is sitting. It's quite impressive! We discovered her ability to do this one day when we put her in her crib to go to sleep. I went into another room and when I looked at the monitor screen a little later and she was sitting! Since then she has been doing it a lot! It is kind of nice because now she doesn't cry for me to sit her up since she can do it herself!

She loves to play with toys (what kid doesn't?). She particularly likes any toy that makes noise when she shakes it (i.e. rattles). We have several little rattles of different shapes and sizes and she'll hold one in each hand and shake, shake, shake! She has a blast. And if she is playing with a toy that doesn't make noise, she'll bang it against something so it does!

She really enjoys touch and feel books. We have one that has different textures of fur for the animals and smooth or sticky paw prints. She goes right for the part that she can feel, pretty smart if you ask me!

She is OBSESSED with our cell phones. She thinks they are her personal chew toys. We just bought her a little play cell phone thinking we could give that to her when she wants one of our phones...that way she can chew away on it! But she was not impressed by it...she knows it's not a real phone. It must feel cheap on her little gums! haha!

Last, but not least, she loves George..absolutely loves him! They play with one another a lot throughout the day. Makayla will grab his toy and tease him with it. She also likes to pat his face (Branden and I do this with him all the time) and he'll do this little scream thing [video]. George loves her right back, he is always giving her kisses and asking her to play with him. It's adorable to say the least.

Talking/Interaction

No, she is not talking. At least she's not saying any discernible words. Many babies her age are saying mama or dada or baba. She knows these words, just doesn't say them. We will ask her "Where's daddy?" and she'll look right and Branden and smile. She does this with me, Branden, and George.

She is learning how to copy things that we do so I predict it won't be TOO long before she starts copying simple words. Most recently it has been her little sniffing trick. If I sniff in and out loudly at her, she'll do it right back. It's quite silly!

A few things that she can do include patty-cake (the clapping part), waving hi/bye, and clapping when we say "yay!"

Eating

Makayla refuses to eat any pureed baby food from me (even though she will eat a whole jar for Paul). So I finally gave in and bought a high chair so I could give her little chunks of soft foods and she could learn to feed herself. Most of the foods are slippery, so she can't grasp them, but she is really enjoying all the different tastes and textures. We have only tried a few things: watermelon (which she has always loved), avocados, apricots, and green beans. I plan to do a lot more once I buck up and go grocery shopping some day (lol).

We introduced her to a sippy cup this month. She can hold it herself and drink from it, but she spills it ALL over herself when she uses it (it's a stage 1 sippy cup, so all she has to do is squeeze the spout even a little and a ton will come pouring out).

She is FINALLY on a sort of eating schedule! It makes life so much easier! She has a bottle every 4 hours during the day and then solids at 8, noon, and 6. She sucks at taking bottles when she isn't home, I guess she is too distracted with the new surroundings/people.

Teeth

Zero teeth at the moment....I have decided they are never going to show themselves! She's been chewing on EVERYTHING and slobbering like crazy for the past month with nothing to show for it.

Sleeping

At the beginning of the month we had her sleep trained, in a sense! We could just put her in her crib and she'd fall asleep herself after 10 minutes of rolling around/whining. She would also sleep through the night and consistently wake up at 6am. This past week everything has changed. She MAY go to sleep in her crib but she won't stay asleep in it. She whimpers all night and wakes herself up probably 10 times every night . Ugh...I hope it's only temporary.

We need a bumper. she is constantly getting her legs
stuck in between the rails!

One plus is that she can put her binky in her mouth by herself. If I'm holding her binky she'll take it from me and pop it in her mouth. I'm telling you...she is getting so big!

Firsts

She had a couple of firsts this month.

First Baseball Game:

It was Larry H. Miller's employee party at the Salt Lake Bee's Game. Jesse works for them but     couldn't make it to the game so he gave us his free tickets and pre-game dinner vouchers! It was delicious and fun! Makayla loved it but she was zonked out half way through the game...just like her mama! ;)

First Father's Day:

For Branden's Father's Day Gift we framed these pictures and also
gave him a gift card to Dick's Sporting Goods

First 4th of July:

Branden had to work on the 4th, so we only got to spend a little bit of time with him. We went to the pool and relaxed. Then that evening Makayla and I went to a BBQ at Paul and Laura's house where I gave Makayla and myself mini pedicures! Afterwards we went to the Southfield parks and watched the big fireworks. While we were waiting for them to start we lit a bunch of sparklers and Makayla loved them. She would just flap her arms so excitedly!

First time on a boat/Fishing:

Other Happenings

Branden's Birthday:

Branden turned 25 this past month!! We hung out together as a family in the morning/afternoon and then went to dinner at Texas Roadhouse that night. After dinner we went to Trafalga and played a game of miniature golf. He got a few pretty good presents! I gave him some Beats headphones and some accessories for his hand gun. His dad bought him a scope for his muzzleloader for his big elk hunt this fall!

The house:

Oh my goodness, THE HOUSE!! They have gotten SO much finished since my last post including the installation of the roof, gutters, stucco, electricity/plumbing/air, dry wall, fireplace, tile flooring, laminate flooring, bath tubs/showers, and garage door! I'll get an updated picture tonight! We go over every evening to look at the house. Our neighbors probably think we are goobers! Crazy to think that it will be finished in 38 days (not that I'm counting down or anything!)

Until next time!
