Wow...how time flies. I can't believe it's been [a little over] a month since my baby girl was born. You know that song by Brad Paisley "Don't Blink"? Yeah...that's how I'm feeling right now. It seems like yesterday that Branden and I were in the hospital, anxiously awaiting the arrival of our baby. But here we are, a month later, in what feels like the blink of an eye. Branden and I are completely and hopelessly in love with this little girl. :)
So what's been happening this month? Well you know all about Makayla's first two weeks of life...with all the craziness and worry. Well that is all behind us now. Life has calmed down....in the medical sense.
On December 3, Branden was sworn in with the Highway Patrol. His assignment? Summit County! Woot woo!
I got to pin his badge on at the swearing-in ceremony! It took me a bit to figure it out! :S |
Daddy and Makayla! :) |
What a stud! |
Anywho...so Branden has spent the past two weeks doing some extensive training in order to start working on the road later this month. He has been working SO hard and we are very proud of him! :)
With his assignment being in Summit county, we had to move away from Richfield...bitter-sweet moment. We were both starting to really like Richfield. We had made friends and were liking the area. But we were also excited to be closer to family and old friends in Heber! And I definitely won't miss the 2 1/2 hour drive, especially with a baby! But I will miss my job and all the friends I made there. We'll definitely have to visit often.
I loved our townhouse! |
So on the 7th we packed everything up and moved to good-ol Heber! Talk about stress. Moving with a newborn is HARD! I wouldn't have been able to do it without all the help I had--Mom, Dad, Marlee, and Paul--THANK YOU! I've been slowly unpacking all our stuff into our new place, but it's been a long time coming. Makayla demands a lot of my time and attention! But with Branden having this weekend off we were able to get mostly everything unpacked PLUS buy and decorate a christmas tree!
On December 12, Makayla turned one month old! With that I just wanted to share what she is doing now-a-days!
She is still a very sleepy girl! She is only awake probably 3 or 4 hours throughout the day. She LOVES to snuggle! Unless she is in a really deep sleep, she will wake up and cry when I put her down (and then the second I pick her up she goes quite and falls asleep again!) I just figured out how to use my moby-like wrap, and she seems to really like being in it (and I like having free hands when I need them!).
She is eating every 2-3 hours throughout the day (still breastfeeding...yay!). Unfortunately, she has reflux so she has to be in a somewhat upright position after she eats or else she will puke up everything she just ate. But none-the-less she is a little oinker and has managed to gain 2 pounds since she was born! (She is 7 1/2 pounds now!) .
She sleeps really well at night, thankfully! She will sleep for 3-4 hours straight before waking up to eat. After she eats and gets her diaper changed she goes right back to sleep! This makes for a very happy mommy! We have a pack-and-play in our room for her to sleep in, but she often ends up sleeping on my chest at night because I fall asleep holding her upright after her feedings (because of the reflux). What is funny is that she doesn't really cry in the night to eat (or really any time she is waking up). She will sit and grunt, squeak, and stretch for 10 minutes as she tries to wake up... It's quite funny, actually! Another funny thing, she sleeps with her mouth wide open and her tongue at the top of her mouth! She is just like her mommy in that sense (sorry baby girl!)!
When she is awake, she is quite active! She likes to be talked or read to, she is so cute when she is listening intently! She will let me put her on the floor to wiggle around a couple times a day, but we don't have many toys right now so she gets bored pretty quick (hopefully that'll change after christmas when she gets toys!) When she lays on a flat surface she will often roll partially onto her left side (she really favors her left side in a lot of ways). She is able to track objects with her eyes if she finds them interesting enough! She can also hold her head up for about 5 seconds before it flops back down.
And that is about it! She is such a good baby and she has everyone wrapped around her tiny little finger!! Even though I rarely get to shower and my house is a mess, I couldn't imagine my life without her!
